Trail Repairs
Tire punctures
Every time that you take your vehicle offroad, you are exposing your tires to danger. Pointy stones, edged rocks, and upstanding tree limbs are waiting to puncture your rubber treads; and don’t even philosophize about how orphaned nails & screws somehow found their way deep into the middle or nowhere!
Learn how most tread punctures can be plugged instead of having to be changed out for your spare.
Slashed sidewall
Up until a few years ago, a slash to your sidewall spelled doom for your tire. Changing out to a spare was the only option. Sometimes, people were able to “stitch” a short slash by using multiple plugs, but it didn’t always hold up.
However, there is a more effective solution. GlueTread (and a couple other products that claim to be similar) is a sidewall patching system.
Valve stem repairs
The third tire component that could cause you problems on the trail is the valve stem.
Learn how to easily replace a damaged valve stem using Colby Tire Valves.
Changing a tire
Sometimes we have no choice but to change out a badly damaged tire with the spare. On a level surface, with a floor jack – a tire change is not too difficult. But on the uneven, slippery terrain of a dirt trail, without the convenience of garage equipment – the process becomes challenging, especially if you are traveling without a group.
